A short stroll to iconic city attractions!

Being within walking distance of some of Melbourne's most iconic attractions is a big drawcard for downsizers and active retirees. The new Rathdowne Place development by Australian Unity is located just a short stroll away from inner city Carlton's iconic charm.

The Carlton Baths aquatic and fitness centre is nearby while Lygon St – the main street of Carlton which has been known for many years as Melbourne’s “Little Italy” - is a short 200m stroll away.

The suburb of Carlton is also home to the world heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne Museum and Carlton Gardens.

Meanwhile, Melbourne’s CBD and its famous laneway culture, boutique shopping and epicurean paradise are just 2km away.

Australian Unity’s Executive General Manager, Residential Communities Suzanne Dvorak said the popularity of The Residences at Rathdowne Place is an example of the growing trend towards downsizers wanting to live in lifestyle-rich locations in existing urban areas.

“Rathdowne Place is surrounded by an abundance of Carlton’s amenities,” she says.

“Favourites include the Nova Cinema, galleries, parks, local bookshops, cafes and restaurants. The residents love going for a morning walk to one of the local cafes to get fresh bread and produce.”

Designed by internationally acclaimed architects Fender Katsalidis, The Residences at Rathdowne Place has 91 apartments, including 70 two-bedroom apartments (which start from $779,000) and 21 three-bedroom apartments (which start from $1,030,000).

Ms Dvorak said the community’s residents predominantly come from Melbourne metropolitan areas such as Carlton, Kew and Balwyn, while a few have moved from interstate. Most are downsizing from larger homes.

Facilities include private meeting rooms, a movie theatre, gym and a rooftop terrace.

In addition, a private dining room and its own kitchenette can be booked by residents for special occasions and entertaining family and friends.

“The Residences at Rathdowne Place has been purposefully designed to create a thriving community for independent retirement living,” Ms Dvorak said.

“These are important features so we create an active community where our residents can thrive and achieve their healthiest retirement.

“The amenities and services included support residences to pursue friendships, fitness, hobbies and relaxation.”
