Construction is now underway at Halcyon Providence, Stockland’s first over-50s land lease community in Ipswich. Strong sales momentum shows Halcyon Providence is resonating with families who value the lifestyle at Providence masterplanned community and want their broader family across the generations to live nearby.
Data from UNSW’s City Futures Research Centre shows that one in five Australians now live in multigenerational households,1 with the 2021 Census indicating there is a 22 per cent rise in three-generation households over just five years2.
Stockland Project Director Glenn Nugent said the sales trends at Halcyon Providence support UNSW’s research.
“The Providence masterplanned community provides an opportunity for children, parents and grandparents to live within minutes of each other in a vibrant and well-connected community. Rather than live in the same household, Halcyon Providence enables multiple generations of families to live in a land lease community, close by,” Mr Nugent said.
“The strong demand we’ve seen, with 81 homes sold across the first three releases, over 95% product sold, shows just how much appetite there is for this type of living in the Ipswich area and demonstrates how Providence fosters connection across generations.
“Our Halcyon homeowners love entertaining the kids and grandchildren in their community, whether for a game of pickleball, resort-style pools or within their homes and having grandparents around the corner is greatly appreciated by those who are often juggling two working parents and child rearing.”
Among the first families to secure their Halcyon Providence home are Jim and Sheila Garson, who are moving into the community to live just minutes from their daughter Christa, son-in-law Blake and three grandchildren, who live in the Providence masterplanned community. Blake’s parents Wayne and Diane Dewberry have also purchased a home in Halcyon Providence.
Sheila Garson said the decision to relocate interstate was immediate once they discovered Providence, having looked at a number of possible places to call home in the South East Queensland region.
“As soon as we drove in, we knew this was the place for us,” Mr and Ms Garson said.
“The community is so welcoming, and everyone is so friendly. Being just minutes from our daughter and grandkids means everything, and after the hustle and bustle of Sydney, it feels like we’ve finally found our forever home.”
“With the encouragement of our daughter and son-in-law, we’ll now be close enough to help with school drop-offs, weekend sport or just being there when the kids need their Nan and Pop. It gives us purpose and brings us closer together as a family.”
Their daughter Christa Dewberry said having her parents close by is life changing.
“I honestly don’t know what I’d do without them,” Ms Dewberry said.
“They take so much pressure off with the kids, and the boys are already excited about riding their bikes over to Nan and Pop’s to use the pool and games room.
“I didn’t grow up seeing my grandparents very often, but my kids will see theirs every other day. Knowing they can just pick up the phone when they need them means they’ll build the kind of memories I never had.
“It’s also a huge comfort knowing Mum and Dad are part of a secure and social community, while still being close enough to be involved in our daily lives.”
An official sod-turn ceremony was held onsite to mark the beginning of works, with Division 1 Councillor Pye Augustine and State Member for Bundamba Lance McCallum MP joining Stockland representatives to celebrate the milestone.
For families like the Garsons and the Dewberrys, it’s the start of a new chapter where three generations can share daily life within the same community. For more information, visit: https://www.stockland.com.au/halcyon-communities/qld/halcyon-providence
