About Oak Tree
Oak Tree has been creating retirement communities since 2004. Today it runs 34 villages across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania, with a focus on regional areas along the East Coast. Every village is built around independent living, with villas and, at some villages, apartments. In August 2023, Oak Tree's villages housed more than 1,900 residents.
Residents lease their home and enjoy village life without the upkeep. Oak Tree maintains the villa, the shared facilities and the grounds, and takes care of all the gardening. That frees your time for friends, family and the things you enjoy. When you visit a village, ask exactly which jobs are covered and which remain your own responsibility inside your home, so you know what to expect once you have moved in.
Oak Tree is a signatory to the Retirement Living Code of Conduct, the retirement living industry's own voluntary code setting standards for how operators treat residents. Aware Super has owned Oak Tree outright since August 2023, after first investing in 2017 with a 70% stake.
Costs & fees
For a current price, call Oak Tree directly on 1300 367 155 or enquire through the listing for the community you're interested in. Because prices and contract terms are best confirmed at the source, ask for the details in writing and compare them with those of any other village you are considering. It also helps to ask what you pay when you move in, what you pay while you live there and what applies when you leave, so you can judge the full cost rather than only the headline figure.
Care & lifestyle services
Oak Tree specialises in independent living for people over 65. As your needs change, you can add support at home from external providers, including care providers, GPs, physiotherapists and podiatrists who visit the village. You choose and engage the provider, so you stay independent in your own home for longer.
No Oak Tree community has on-site aged care. Instead, you arrange the help you need at home, from the providers who come to you. If you think your needs may change, it is worth asking each village how visiting providers are arranged and what you would do if you later wanted a different kind of care. It also helps to ask how often providers visit and who pays for them, so you can compare the arrangements village by village.
Shared facilities give village life its social side. You'll find places like a community centre, swimming pool, gymnasium and bowling green. Some communities also have a library, movie theatre, village bus or craft room. Think about which of these you would use every week and which you might only use now and then, because that is a good way to judge whether the lifestyle suits you.
