Quick facts

About Bolton Clarke

Bolton Clarke has been looking after Australians since 1885. Its communities run from North Queensland down to Victoria and across to Western Australia. Some are villa and apartment villages, while others share a site with residential aged care. For someone downsizing, that difference is worth understanding early, because it shapes what kind of support may be close by as your needs change.

Bolton Clarke manages the village and its shared facilities and grounds, and it cleans the communal areas. That leaves you more time for family, friends and the things you enjoy. Amenities and activities vary from community to community, so it helps to visit more than one and compare what each offers in person.

Bolton Clarke is a foundation member of the Retirement Living Code of Conduct, the retirement living industry's own voluntary code setting standards for how operators treat residents. That tells you what standard to expect from the first conversation. Bolton Clarke is a not-for-profit, and RSL Care RDNS Limited trades as Bolton Clarke. It formed in 2015 and has used the Bolton Clarke name since 2017. If governance matters to you, those details are a sensible starting point for your questions.

Costs & fees

For a current price, call Bolton Clarke directly on 1300 221 122 or enquire through the listing for the community you're interested in. When you speak to the team, it helps to ask what you would pay to move in, what ongoing charges apply and what happens financially when you leave. Keeping the answers for each community side by side makes it much easier to compare them fairly and to talk them through with family or an adviser.

Care & lifestyle services

You can stay independent in your own home for longer, adding home nursing, home assistance and allied health as your needs change. You choose your own approved home care provider, with no obligation to use the village's, and depending on eligibility and location you may also access personal care and domestic support. That flexibility means you can start with little support and add more only when you need it.

Residential aged care sits alongside some communities, so higher care can stay close to home. It is worth asking at each community. If staying near care matters to you, ask how it works at the specific villages you are considering.

Some communities offer community centres, resident lounges, landscaped gardens and social clubs. Hobby groups, wellness activities, organised events and outings fill the calendar, and the mix varies by community. When you visit, think about which of these you would actually use and look for a community that fits the way you like to spend your days.

What makes Bolton Clarke different

Bolton Clarke is Australia's largest independent not-for-profit aged care provider, and its retirement villages draw on that scale. 4,619 residents already call a Bolton Clarke community home, living in classic and contemporary villas or apartments. Fees and charges are published for each village in a downloadable comparison document, so you can weigh up communities before you call. Reading that document first can help you arrive at a conversation with specific questions.

Resident wellbeing backs that up. 90% of residents feel positive about life, and almost three quarters rate their health as good to excellent. That comes from a biennial survey of more than 1500 residents across 38 villages.
