About Anglicare
Anglicare traces to Anglican Retirement Villages, which opened its first village at Castle Hill in 1959. Its villages now offer apartments and villas across Sydney and the Illawarra, so you can choose the style of home and the location that suit you. Having both apartments and villas on offer gives a downsizer room to think about how much space they really need.
Residents live in their home without buying it outright. Anglicare looks after maintenance inside and outside the home, along with the gardens and common areas. That leaves your time free for friends, family and travel. Amenities and activities vary by community, so it is worth asking what each village offers before you decide.
Anglicare is a supporter of the Retirement Living Code of Conduct, the industry's voluntary code setting standards for how operators treat residents. Anglicare says its adherence to the Code is reviewed annually. Anglicare Sydney was formed on 1 July 2016 when Anglicare Sydney and Anglican Retirement Villages merged. Anglican Retirement Villages had been owned and operated by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. Knowing who stands behind a village is a sensible starting point for any buyer, and you can raise it directly when you speak with the team.
Costs & fees
For a current price, call Anglicare directly on 1300 111 278 or enquire through the listing for the community you're interested in. When you ask, request the full price of the home and a clear list of any ongoing charges, so that you can set the answers beside what you spend now. Keeping those answers in writing makes it easier to compare one village with another once you have visited a few.
Care & lifestyle services
Anglicare delivers home care services onsite in its retirement villages, backed by more than 75 years of providing in-home care and support. You can add that support as your needs change, paying privately or with government funding, and stay independent in your own home for longer.
Residential aged care or 24/7 onsite care is available within some villages. It is not at every community, so it is worth asking at each one. If you expect to need regular help in future, ask how that works in practice at the village you prefer, and who you would contact first.
Depending on the village, you might have heated swimming pools, gymnasiums, bowling greens and walking trails close to home. Cafes, libraries, hairdressers and community rooms for functions and activities add to village life, and the mix varies by community. A visit is the best way to see how these spaces are used and which village suits the way you like to spend your days.
What makes Anglicare different
Every purchaser gets a complimentary concierge service before settlement, with help to declutter, sell and move. It takes the pressure out of the biggest step, so you can focus on your new home. Selling, sorting belongings and organising a move all at once can feel like a lot, especially when you are also choosing a village. Having support with those tasks can make the timing of each step easier to plan and manage. Help with the practical side of a move can matter a great deal to someone leaving a family home of many years, so ask what the service involves and how early you can start using it.
Anglicare's roots go back to 1856, when it was established as The Church Society. Anglicare is also a member of the Retirement Living Council, and residents who want further support can raise concerns with the Code Administrator. Knowing where to take a concern is worth understanding before you move in, not after.
