Ground has been broken today, and construction is now underway on stage 2 of the Uniting Edinglassie Emu Plains redevelopment – an exciting new chapter that will create a contemporary, caring and inclusive retirement living community, designed to meet the growing demand for seniors’ housing in the region.
Simon Furness, Uniting NSW.ACT’s Director Property and Housing said: “We’re thrilled that Stage 2 of the Uniting Edinglassie Emu Plains seniors' community is underway.
“This next stage will deliver a new and contemporary retirement living village, perfectly complementing the award-winning residential aged care home delivered in stage 1, which has been supporting residents since it opened in 2021.
“Recognising the increased need and demand for seniors’ housing in Western Sydney, the Nepean and lower Blue Mountains area, stage 2 of this development will enable Uniting to create an active, welcoming and caring seniors’ community, where people can feel supported and age in their own homes with dignity.
“Stage 2 of this project will see 147 independent living apartments built, creating a vibrant seniors’ community alongside the 100 residential aged care places already on site - where residents can continue living life their way, with the support they need to stay healthy, active and socially connected,” Simon said.
“The Development Application (DA) for the independent living village (stage 2) was approved in May 2024. Construction in partnership with our builder, Growthbuilt, has now started - with completion of Stage 2 expected in the first half of 2027.
Key features include:
- Flexible housing options: 147 independent living apartments, complementing the existing 100 residential aged care places.
- Vibrant community spaces: A welcoming clubroom where residents can connect over shared interests and enjoy social events and activities.
- Shared amenities with aged care: Convenient access to the existing facilities in the adjacent aged care home, including a café, hair and beauty salon, chapel, consulting rooms for medical and allied health professionals, and a multi-purpose space.
- Tranquil outdoor spaces: Beautifully landscaped gardens designed for relaxation and enjoyment – including spots for bird watching, a favourite pastime in the village.
