TriCare has secured approval for a major expansion of its Hastings Point retirement community on the NSW Tweed Coast, adding both new independent living homes and residential aged care to the existing village. TriCare Hastings Point Retirement Community
The approved development at 87 to 89 Tweed Coast Road will add 51 independent living units across three buildings and a 47 place residential aged care home. It will also include a pool pavilion, bowls pavilion, bowling green, landscaped gardens and other communal facilities.
TriCare's existing Hastings Point community already contains 91 independent living units. Once the new development is completed, the site is expected to comprise 142 independent living units together with the 47 place aged care facility. NSW Planning Portal: TriCare Hastings Point Seniors Living
Why it matters for downsizers
The expansion is significant because it combines independent retirement living and residential aged care on the same site, giving residents the potential to remain within the same broader community as their care needs change.
That model is becoming increasingly important as people enter retirement living later in life and place greater value on access to care as well as lifestyle amenities.
For downsizers, the ability to move into an independent living community with aged care available on the same site can reduce the risk of having to leave the area, friends and familiar surroundings if higher levels of care are eventually required.
The project also adds new retirement housing supply to the Tweed Coast, one of Australia's most established coastal downsizing markets. Buyers considering a retirement community should look not only at the homes and facilities available today, but also at what care and support options may be available later.
