About Palm Lake
Palm Lake introduced over-50s resort living to Australia in 1977. More than 12,000 homeowners live across 27 Palm Lake Resort communities, and Palm Lake Care planned its first New South Wales community, at Forster. Palm Lake Care communities are concentrated across South East Queensland and at Bargara in the Wide Bay region. If you are weighing up a move, it helps to think about how close you want to be to family, friends and the places you already know.
In the independent living resorts, residents own their home and lease the land. Palm Lake looks after the resort amenities and keeps them in top condition, leaving you more time for friends and hobbies. For many downsizers, handing over the upkeep of shared grounds is one of the main attractions of resort living, so it is worth asking exactly what is covered at the community you are considering.
The Elliott family founded Palm Lake and still owns and runs it. The founder continues to provide vision and direction for the group. Knowing who runs a business, and how long it has operated, is a useful starting point when you compare your options.
Costs & fees
For a current price, call Palm Lake directly on 1800 246 677 or enquire through the listing for the community you're interested in. Because pricing is not set out on this page, asking for the figures in writing gives you something concrete to compare. When you call or enquire, it is worth asking what you pay upfront, what you pay on an ongoing basis and what happens to those costs when you eventually leave.
It also helps to think about your own budget before you call. Work out what you expect to receive from selling your current home, what you want to keep in reserve and how the costs of a community compare with what you spend now. That way you can judge an offer against your own circumstances rather than in isolation.
Care & lifestyle services
Palm Lake gives you independent living with aged care on site at every Palm Lake Care community, so support is close by if your health changes. Around-the-clock care comes from clinical and care professionals, including visiting doctors, dentists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. Audiologists and speech pathologists are part of the team too. Ask how these services are arranged, how quickly you could see a professional and what would happen if your needs changed over the coming years.
Private aged care suites come with ensuite bathrooms and courtyards. Some communities also offer memory support for people living with dementia. Palliative care is part of each resident's ongoing care at no additional cost. Because the details differ by community, speaking with the team and visiting in person will show you how independent living and care sit together at that site. Ask about care availability at each community.
The Palm Lake Resort country clubs include movie theatres, undercover bowls rinks, tennis courts and pools, with plenty of places to meet neighbours. Think about whether you would use these facilities regularly, and ask to see them when you visit.
What makes Palm Lake different
Every Palm Lake Care community sits next to a sister independent living resort. Couples can stay near each other when only one partner needs care. Many of the sister Palm Lake Resort communities also offer no council rates and no exit fees, so you don't pay those costs when you move in or move on. For someone downsizing, the absence of those costs is worth confirming at the specific community you are looking at.
Use the map and listings on this page to look at individual communities, and compare what each one offers against what matters most to you.
